Got to meet George R R Martin (author of the awesome A Song of Ice and Fire) and the lovely Parris, who were both very nice. I was rather surprised to see that for such a big con with a great percentage of cosplayers, we (a group of 5) were the only Ice and Fire cosplayers (or masquerade participants, whatever). I was Melisandre of Asshai, and had to struggle with a silk brocade that fell into pieces if you just looked at it... but it was really too pretty not to use. Everything worked out in the end though, and the dress was nice in the warm Finnish weather. Ironically I developed a slight fever towards the evening... I don't know if I should think of it as R'hllor's curse or approval XD
The masquerade, unlike the cosplay, was really quite small so everyone got prices. We won the "We're not dead yet" award and, I feel, the best price - a Westeros house shirt each and a King's copper. And the chance to talk a bit more with the pleasant duo, which hardly hurt
I actually did some Ice and Fire fanart (le gasp! Me? Drawing? Finishing something?) of Sandor and Loras (though not the kind I did in the meme...) but since I gave it to Mr Martin you won't be seeing it here. But that is probably just as well, because it was a bit spoilery.
We sold fanzines and doujinshi as well, and I must say it went really well. Even the We Are the Airship Pirates did well, and that's primarily made up by illustrations. Speaking of which, I shall have to send that copy to Mr. Chadwick who was so nice to give us the thumbs up on the making of Space 1889 fanzines.
Now I just have to sit down and write a bit about A Song of Ice and Fire, Melisandre and the making of the outfit, and I'll get university points for this. Växjö University is that awesome. It's safe to say that out of all of the students who take the Fantasy Literature course, I had the most rewarding final exam XD

I'm sure they'll appreciate it
