Swtor: Homosexuality by Ddriana Swtor: Homosexuality by Ddriana
I know we said that we'd return to Dragon Age come February, but due to the trip to France and my apparent inability to count there's this extra SWTOR comic. And no time to make a DA comic. Thus, this.

During the beta period of Star Wars the Old Republic, I read that Lucas Arts promptly informed fans that there's no homosexuality in Star Wars. During that time words like 'homosexuality' were also censored in the chat. We have since then been told that the 'no homosexuality' issue would be fixed in later updates.

We have been promised that Mass Effect 3 will be the first in the series to feature male homosexuality. I would not say it would be first to include homosexuality, because you could romance women while playing female Shepard since game 1.

I have a dream, that one day Bioware will include companions such as "undeniably butch gay man" and "transvestite played straight and not for laughs". I have great faith in Bioware, 'tis true, and I do believe they will be the ones who go there first in a game with a stereotypically male audience.

Sorry for the rather political turn but it's a matter close to my heart. When one kind of homosexuality is viewed as ok, is even sexualised, while the other is censored I get... really angry :I
Equality and respect, it's good for you.

Champions and Heroes normally center around Dragon Age, and is a collaboration with the sort of French speaking :iconclueedo: and can also be found here championsandheroes.smackjeeves… and on tumblr championsandheroes.tumblr.com/

All hail Bioware!

Zevran wasn't gay though, he was bi. But yes, in terms of romances DAO was heaps better than SWTOR, in multiple ways.

True to that, It should be for both genders, I have both a male and female character that I have decided to be gay, and I refuse to let them Kiss(or sleep) with anyone that is not of the same gender as they, and the thing on Makeb does not count, it was just a small thing on the side.
So I am still waiting for it to be introduced to the game for real

I haven't gotten around to Makeb, but it's something at least. Far better than the "homosexuality doesn't exist" attitude.

Well, the thing on Makeb is so small that it is almost non-existence, the only thing it opens is a chance to flirt a few times(though it depends also on if your Republican or Imperial, the Republic gets the girl, and the Empire gets the guy)

because there it means 'Harley riders whose inconsiderately loud motorcycles ruin everyone else's nice time'. :P

I think Homo means hominideo, not just man, but all kinds of smart primates, like chimps and Java man.

I think it's the other way around. Homo is the base on which hominideo is built. I think. Not sure, obviously.

Not sure either, in my native language man is called "homem", because of the latin for man "hominem". I think that's also the root for hominideo. But whatever.

Great comic anyway.

I read somewhere else that this was because any sort of notion of sexuality was strange when relationships with other species was not only possible but entirely accepted. Then again, no same-sex options in ToR so far, 'shrug'

Well, 'homo' in Latin actually means 'same', not 'man.' (but the joke was really funny XD I love SWTOR)

Actually, 'homo' in Latin means 'human'. It is the Greek 'homo' that means 'same'. Thus we have homo sapiens and homosexual, both with the same word but with very different meanings :)

Hmm, I know you're looking at Latin for the meaning of "man," but the word homosexual is derived from the Greek homos (omos with a rough breathing mark). Likewise, hetero in heterosexual is the Greek eteros with a rough breathing mark.

I wanna make it clear that the word homosexual is not derived from Latin. My proof of this is what I stated above--heterosexual, the opposite of homosexual, is derived from Greek. But if we were to look at it, the Latin word homo means "man." It does *not* mean human, because today a human could be a man or woman. You've gotta remember that women weren't really people back then. Thus, to Romans, homo only meant "man.'

Read this short article if you want scholarly evidence: [link]

I get that this is just for giggles & such, but I think it's vital that people don't misinterpret words. :) I study Greek & Latin daily, so the ancient world and its impact on us today is very important to me.

As I pointed out in the earlier post, I am aware of the fact that the 'homo' in 'homosexual' has its origin in Greek, while the 'homo' in 'homo sapiens' comes from Latin. The point of the joke is that agent Sullivan doesn't see the difference between the two... and that 'there is no such thing as homosexuality in Star Wars' bit.

I find it very interesting how much language tells you about the people who use it and their history. As you point out, the term 'man' has only recently began to include women in its 'human' context. The marginalization of women even in our very language is quite overwhelming really, and even more so in Swedish than English. (There is a Norwegian book called "Egalia's daughters" by Gerd Brantenberg, which flips the gender roles around as well as the language, and the sheer amount of ordinary words that have to change to accomplish a female dominated language is quite shocking.)

That being said, I am a bit jealous of you XD Studying the ancient world sounds absolutely marvelous and inspiring, as well as eye-opening.

Glad you took that well! When I was writing it, I was thinking, "Gosh, I hope this doesn't come across as rude." I just wanted to clarify that as deceptive as it looks, it's all from the Greek.

That sounds like quite a fascinating book! You know, it's interesting: there are matriarchal societies for some animals. People could learn from that. It'd be a better world all around if all of us could be equal (men and women, heterosexuals and homosexuals, etc.). The more and more I study the ancient world, the more I appreciate living in the twenty-first century. Being a headstrong woman, I'd probably be killed...or worse...almost instantly.

If you ever have the time to read some ancient literature, then you definitely should. Everyone loves Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. :) Oh, and I also recommend "I, Claudius" by Robert Graves--there's the book, of course, or a TV show rendition (that was actually really well done).

Oh yes, reading history... I'd love to take a time machine and sort of wander around and have a look around... if I was invisible :I

I've read some actually, not much but a bit. Euripides' "Medea" is close to my heart (impossible not to root for her too). The TV show "I, Claudius" is standing on a bookshelf, waiting for its turn XD Currently too busy going through Supernatural, but perhaps after that.

maybe it's to enhance combat? here's how I see mines working...

my cyborg has the black round glasses... they look like normal shades so probably as a tool for deception while it shows necessary data, added trajectory for shooting, weak points, calculations for missions and other mic stuff that an agent needs to get the job done... there's also a mic on the end... probably for relaying orders or enhancing a voice to make it more believable when using a cover identity...

also I probably have an MP3 in my head that I can use to listen to music while I do my dirty work =P

Hiding problems behind a joke and sex? I can deal with it. I may not be gay, but my Wardens can be.

Not for Leliana though. I'm still weary of here after Alistair making the princess stabbity remark, and then me killing her and Wynne so that I could become a Reaver (even though I reloaded as soon as I got it). I played her DLC. I know how dangerous she actually is.

Zevran's past seems to really come out when/if he is in the Fade during the Tower.
